Post Holidays Hibernation

So apparently the Holidays took quite a toll on me.  I'm not used to eating so much, so I had to cleanse for an entire week and let me tell you, it was really not easy.
I went a whole week juicing and eating greens, very little fruit and lots of avocados. That is it. Avocados. Avocados. Juice. Cold veggie soups. Avocados. Green Smoothies.  Even for a vegan this is a bit much sometimes.  So I hibernated for a couple of weeks to recover from the Holiday craze...

And my goal is to have energy to make my Art, especially since I'm spending a pretty penny on courses to increase my metal smithing skills...for now I keep doing what I know how to do...

Bangles are always fun and I decided to be more generous when adding charms and such...I've gotta admit, I'm pretty pleased with how these turned out, I feel like I'm getting a hang of the so coveted Boho style which is still dominating the upcoming Spring fashion...
I also decided to keep practicing soldering with a torch, so the thin bangles you see are made from scratch by moi!  They have a bit of a rustic quality to it, so I didn't clean them up greatly, but I decided to leave the imperfect qualities of the joining process...

You guys have no idea how happy I am that bronze and brass are having a big comeback! I love the warm hues of these metals...I find these are so much more interesting than gold and paired up with oxidized sterling and steel, they are just divine!  Look how much pearl luminous this stack is...I just love it!  It has mystery and romance...
Both of these stacks have a sensuous appeal to them, so perfect for the gypsy folks like me out there!
Ok I'm not exactly a gypsy, but I consider myself a nomad as I've moved all over all my life and had a job that entail traveling...

I suppose since I've quit my job, I feel blessed and cursed at the same time...I'm still trying to get the hang of my schedule, but I'm not quite there yet, however I will work as hard as I can to make a routine happen, especially since one of my aims is to go back to grad school to get that so desired MFA of mine...lots to do on my portfolio, especially since I plan to enter the TA program to pay for tuition...we shall see...I'm still reading Artist as Brand.
I actually was planning on slowing down on the jewelry, but I just can't seem to....

Especially when I find pendants like this one... I just can't help it!   The antiquity is calling to be revived once again...

I'm sort of pulled into two direction in my jewelry making....the classic and the grungy rustic look.  I decided to stop thinking about it and do both...screw themes, it's already hard enough to create...
However I am giving it my all...these designs are thought out, ever changing and redone until I'm fully satisfied...

One thing is for sure though, I'm not giving up and I'm also mixing it up to come up with a variety of prices.  I used to think "affordable", now I think "attainable" but "precious"...perhaps the formula is not all quite there, but I need to make a buck without underselling as I do spend quite a bit of time on these pieces...

Thanks again for stopping by for my occasional rambling, hope to see you on Etsy or maybe in person someday soon...

Merci Beaucoup!

  1. I love the direction you're heading. I know the struggle to give the items you create some personality while still not making them too wild. I struggle with it myself. Let me say that where you're at is an inspiration to me, whether you're struggling or not. . .you are creating some very precious pieces!!
